Well this is a bummer.  I was hoping Snickers wouldn't need surgery.  I just spoke with the vet again, and he said that Snickers WILL walk on the broken leg, however he is reluctant to walk at all.  He said that the broken leg doesn't seem to be really bothering him, so the vet is thinking that it might be something else that's causing him to not want to walk.  So he took more x-rays, and found that his OTHER hind leg has a fracture in the ball of his hip joint (the ball that is at the end of the femur).  So because of the fracture there, he's sore there.  The vet said that ball needs to be cut off.  This same vet did this same surgery on another rescue I had last year, and the dog healed very nicely and can run and play just fine.  So he's going to operate on Snickers on Tuesday or Wednesday.  So I guess I need your donations that you offered afterall.  Sorry guys!!!!  If you offered a donation, please send it to me.  Please make it out to Lacey Conner, and send to:  11769 Avenida Del Sol, Porter Ranch, CA  91326.  It shouldn't be much more than $1,000, and I have $700.  So I only need about $300 more.  Anything over that amount, I'll just pay for myself.  If you would rather pay the vet directly, then let me know, and I will give you the info and I'm sure you can use your credit card if you like.  Thanks so much everyone!  I'll keep you updated on how the little one is doing!  I truly, truly appreciate your help in saving him!!!!!!
Take care,

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to thank everyone again for your concern and help offered for Snickers.  I picked Snickers up from the North Central Animal Shelter yesterday morning.  He is SOOOO cute and so sweet!!  This is the first time I've met him in person.  I took him straight to the vet and dropped him off, and then I had to catch a plane to go out of town to visit family for the 4th.  Anyway, I just got off the phone with the vet a few minutes ago, and he said that Snickers may not need surgery after all.  He said that the fracture looks like it happened over a month ago, and that puppies heal pretty fast.  He said that he doesn't seem to be in a whole lot of pain, and that he IS walking on it.  He said he will take a new x-ray and see how it's heeling, and will re-evaluate in a few days.  Of course it would have been better to repair the fracture surgically as soon as it happened.  But since several weeks have passed, he said that where the break is, is "rock solid", and that it would be very "messy" to operate on it after so much time has passed.  He did say that Snickers has kennel cough though.  So there will be some vet bills - x-rays plus treating the kennel cough - but now the cost may not be as high as I initially thought.

Gretchen and Liz - I just received your checks....thank you SO much!!  I am going to hold off on cashing them though....let me see what the grand total is for the bill - it might be less than we though.  I still would like to ask for help though - I have been spending so much money on animals' vet bills this year.  Most recently, 16 kittens with pan luke gave me a gigantic bill - which caused me to max out my credit card.  That's really why I ultimately had to ask for help with Snickers.  Anyway, to make it easier on everyone who offered a donation - if we all pitch in like $50 (many of you gave WAY more than that - which I TRULY appreciate, but if Snickers doesn't end up needing surgery, then I don't want to take your money which could be used to help other animals), then that should be enough to cover it (I think there's about 10 of you donating now - myself included - and I don't think the bill will be more than $500 or $600 at this point, so maybe we could just divide it equally among us?  Anyway we'll see on Monday what the charges are).  I just don't want to take anyone's money if it's not going to be used specifically on Snickers.  So again, I'll be in touch on Monday, and let you know how Snickers is doing, and if the doctor decided to do the surgery or not, and how much the bill ended up costing.  Hopefully Snicker's kennel cough will clear up soon too.

Thanks again everyone for your kindness, concern, and generosity!!  I truly appreciate it!  It's so heartwarming to see a group of people pull together like this!!  I'll send you pictures as soon as I bring Snickers back to my house next week.  He is a CUTIE!!!  It shouldn't be too hard to find him a loving forever home.

Take care,
Lacey
